Wow wow wow! I am so blown away by the excitement around my collaboration with Strut This. You [I] never fully know what type of response you will get when you release something new but oh em gee I am so thrilled that you guys love it! I started working on this before I even found out I was pregnant so it has been a looooong time in the making. The design and manufacturing process obviously takes time, but there was also a period of time when I was very pregnant and unable to model the clothes for our linesheet, making it feel like an even longer process. Thankfully I had a few weeks to recover after birth before I had to shoot promo imagery (yikes). And fun fact, the pants definitely hug, hide, and support so I was able to rock everything before I really felt my body was ready to be in front of the camera.
The inspiration behind each piece is simple: I wanted items that I can’t live without and that will mix well into my everyday wardrobe. I love that all the tops can be worn with jeans, a denim jacket, leather jacket, puffer, etc. and look just as cute. The leggings are luxe and neutral so you can rock them to the gym, a plane ride, a day of errands, or just lounging. BUT, if you want to dress them up go for it! The cropped Jetset Sweater is one of my favorite pieces–you’ve seen me wear this for months–and I catch myself grabbing it almost daily whether I’m going to work out or just with jeans.
The fit is true to size. I wear a SMALL in everything–tops, bottoms, tees, bras, etc. In true activewear form though, the leggings and bras are snug to give me the support I need while working out. The pants were made extra high-waisted because I prefer my belly button (& fupa) covered completely. IMO they are very forgiving and flattering. The other pieces (tees, tanks, & sweaters) are loose so you can get your true size or size UP for a more casual vibe.
The color scheme was an obvious choice for me. We all know the magic of black–it lengthens, flatters, and hides. I feel comfortable in black, which is why there is so much of it in this collection. I opted for a tan (I called it chai latte) color as an accent throughout the collection because, well, it’s just part of my aesthetic. After seeing the tan on a multitude of skin colors, I can confirm that it looks amazing on everyone! Plus, with these colors, you can easily mix and match and more importantly, wear them often since they are all a shade of neutral.
I hope you love the collection as much as I loved creating it. Strut This was my first choice to partner with, as they are a small business run by a family of women in Los Angeles and that really resonated with me. I appreciate all the love and support you guys have shown me so far and I cannot wait to see you wearing your pieces on the gram! Please tag us (@sivanayla + @strut_this) so we can see and share your beautiful faces 🙂
