I’m very transparent about things like my age (28), beauty / skin routine, where I buy my stuff, etc. After all, that’s why I have a blog, right? I’m here to share all the good, bad, ugly (& pretty) details of my life and this is one I’ve been verrrrry excited to discuss. As I approach the big 3-0 I’m slowly starting to take precautions against signs of aging, sun damage, floppy skin, etc. It’s all involved, unfortunately. While I’m not quite ready to commit to something like Botox–I just don’t feel ready (yet)–I am more than willing to try natural supplements, dietary changes, vitamins, minerals, you get it.
When I first learned that you can ingest collagen I was instantly intrigued. I kinda knew how / what people used it for but never really did any research on the ways you can nourish your body with it. Learning that you can actually drink collagen was one of those moments in life I where I was far too excited (anything to avoid invasive procedures!!!).
I chose to use Vital Proteins for my very first collagen experience. As many of you know, I’m not a big pill-popper or vitamin taker; however, it was one of my resolutions this year to take more vitamins and supplements. While I’m warming up to the idea of adding pills and powders to my daily routine, I’m making sure anything I take is all-natural, non-GMO, whole-food-based, and in this case, cruelty-free to animals.
I’m currently using 2 collagen products by Vital Proteins–Marine Collagen & Collagen Beauty Greens. O-M-G. You guys, I’m not lying when I say try this at home before visiting a clinic or doctor. Here are the benefits of the products I’m using:
One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed so far are my nails. I used to have weak, brittle, peel-y nails that would break if I try to grow them out. Right now my nails feel strong and I’m rocking a longer, more feminine length, that I was never able to before. I’ve even received compliments! Makes getting a mani much more fun. I’ve been taking both collagen products for about 3 weeks now and I’m finally starting to see some results in my skin and hair, too. I didn’t expect to see anything happen over-night or even the first week. Things like this take time, especially when you take the natural route.
My skin and hair have undergone some serious sun in the last week and I must say that it has bounced back faster than ever. I feel there is a certain resilience restored that just used to take a lot more time and products. I can definitely get behind these changes. Like I said, anything to prevent signs of aging.
So, what is collagen and what does it do? In a nutshell, it is the vital building block for our skin, hair, nails, bones, and joints. A proper amount of collagen will keep your skin glowing and provide an overall healthier appearance. What’s not to love, right? And yes, while we all love those superficial benefits, it also promotes internal health that isn’t always maintained since a lot of the foods we eat are overly-processed and stripped of nutrients.
The Collagen Beauty Greens provide it’s own set of benefits. The natural blend of elixirs, marine collagen, raw greens, and probiotics offer visible firmness, hydration, and elasticity to your skin, while also giving you a dose of good bacteria (yep, that’s a thing!). Trust me, Paul has forced me to try many green supplements and none ever lasted more than once in my smoothie. Ever. If you follow me on Snapchat you know my daily drink has been G-R-E-E-N. Yup, this one is coconut-y and yummy and I’m pretty much obsessed.
Speaking of taste. I’ve never been in love with the concept of chugging water with some sort of powder in it. Even unflavored is “flavored” to me. Instead I will dump all supplements, powders, proteins, etc. into my smoothie and THAT I can chug all day. Right now I’m living off this recipe that I promise is yummy. Plus, once you start seeing the benefits of it you won’t really care what it tastes like!
