Sometimes I forget just how important it is to drink water. Aside from the many, MANY, perks of keeping your body hydrated, I cannot really function properly without it. Over the weekend I literally thought I had appendicitis from the intense and sharp stomach pains I had. I was curled into a ball all night and the following day couldn’t stand up straight because it hurt my stomach to be upright. Paul took my temperature several times (after reading all the side effect and symptoms of appendicitis) and was pulling me out of bed on Sunday night to go to the Emergency Room. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I honestly thought he was crazy. And he kinda was.

In case you were wondering, it wasn’t appendicitis. I was extremely dehydrated. I somehow forgot to drink water over the weekend since I was so busy sipping on wine??? This is probably TMI but basically I was pretty constipated from the lack of water. After chugging glass after glass of water, I woke up feeling like a whole new person. I wasn’t quite there yet (needed a movement if you know what I mean) but eventually I felt back to normal.

When you deprive yourself of water to a point you become dehydrated, your body doesn’t actually properly absorb the water when you start drinking it. How do you know if you are absorbing? Well, you won’t need to run to the bathroom every 15 minutes when you are properly hydrated. You will be able to drink water without your bladder bursting.

It is such a noticeable difference when I am drinking the right amount of water versus none at all. My skin is clearer, my belly is flatter (less bloated), my bowl movements are “normal,” my workouts are stronger, and I don’t have headaches. Just thinking about all the negatives of being dehydrated makes my skin crawl. I’ve been hospitalized twice from dehydration and I hope this little warning my body gave me over the weekend will get me back on track.
