DIY: California Girls

Last night I went to the Katy Perry concert with my sister, and while it was fabulous to be stared at for our magnificent outfits, I wasn’t feeling quite so carefree in the hours leading up to the concert. With not a single thing to wear, I resorted to a DIY (do-it-yourself) solution. Instead of stressing over which type of costume I would make, I let the store decide for me. Browsing the isles of Jo-Ann’s Fabrics, I came across pastel colored pom-poms, pink trim, a feather boa, and some iridescent jewels. I immediately thought cotton candy and the rest was easy. There is really only one good reason to keep any old clothes that you KNOW will not be worn. And that is for costuming needs. Thankfully, I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of a baby blue, one shouldered dress I’ve had for years and yesterday it was put on major display. Take a look at how some pom-poms, trim, an old dress and glue gun took my non-existent outfit to this California Girls creation.

What you need:

  • Any old dress you’re ready to destroy & shoes*
  • Pom-poms in different colors and sizes
  • Feather boa
  • Jewels
  • Glue gun

Instructions:

  • Glue gun the boa along the neckline of your dress or the bottom
  • Glue gun the pom-poms in a random layout
  • Glue gun a jewel onto each pom-pom for added shine

*If you are ready to destroy some shoes, glue some pom-poms and jewels on a pair to match the dress

Tip: I made a headband using an errant piece of tulle I had laying around and glued some poms on it.
